ODD FELLOWSHIP PAST GRANDS - LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Seven members of the Loyal Wairarapa Past Grands’ Lodge of Odd Fellow's were present at a meeting .of "—Loyal Tararua Past Grands’ Lodge held at Eketahuna last evening. They were accorded an enthusiastic welcome by the president, Bro. A. H. Gray and given lodge honours. P.D.G.M. Bro. C. J. DeLacey, thanked Bro. Gray for his warm welcome on behalf of the visitors. Lodge honours were also accorded the three members of the District Management Committee who reside in Wairarapa, namely, P.G’s. Bro. R. Farrow, R. Baikie and G. S. Bruce, who all returned thanks and gave a resume of the business transacted al the District Conference held in Wellington last weekend. The nomination of officers for the ensuing term were made as under: —President, i Bro. H. E. Gyde; vice-presi-dents, Bros. I. Algie and A. N. Cox; guardians, Bros. A. L. Ford and W. D. OBITUARY MRS ARTHUR HOPWOOD. The death occurred at a private hospital in Palmerston North on Tuesday of Mrs Gertrude Lilly Hopwood, wife of Mr Arthur Hopwood, College Street, Palmerston North. The late Mrs Hopwood was born in Carterton 56 years ago. being the daughter of very early settlers, the late Mr and Mrs George Burnett. She was in good health till her short illness, and her death was very sudden. Visitors had spent the evening with the family on Monday night, and Mrs Hop- ’ wood retired in her usual health. She was stricken ill at 1 a.rp- and died some time after her admission to hospital. A member of a family of eight daughters and one son. only three sisters survive. They are Mrs E. Eagle, Greytown, Mrs C. Callender, Lower Hutt, and Mrs A. Hadfield, Flock House, Bulls. She also leaves two sons. Frank and Stewart (Palmerston North) a stepson, Mr Roy Hopwood (Palmerston North), and a stepdaughter. Mrs Brian Bendall, of Blenheim. RACES ON SATURDAY CARTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. All roads will lead to the Taratahi racecourse on Saturday next, when the Carterton Racing Club will hold its annual meeting. It is hoped the weather will be favourable to ensure cne of the best meetings held on the course for years. As the acceptances for the meeting are excellent, and the track is in splendid condition, some good racing should be seen. The train arrangements, which have been advertised, should meet the requirements of patrons from a distance, as the course is well situated near the railway for the convenience of patrons, and as a return train leaves the course after the meeting. All arrangements are well in hand for a most successful meeting. BOWLING DE LACEY BUTTONS. Playing on the Carterton green last evening for the Delacey buttons Newbould and Kilmister (s) stalled off a challenge from A. Thompson and R. Thompson (s), after a good game by 16/13. ACCIDENT AT WORKS VICTIM TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. Mr W. Hansen of Brooklyn Road, < Carterton, had the misfortune to have his arm broken below the elbow on Tuesday at the Waingawa Freezing Works. He was engaged in the wool department when some wool became caught up in the machinery. It is understood he endeavoured to release it without the power being shut off and his right arm was caught with the result it was broken and otherwise injured. He was attended to at the works and conveyed to Dr Wells’s Surgery, Carterton, and afterwards to Masterton Hospital for treatment. YOUNG FARMERS BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Carterton Young Farmers’ Club on Tuesday night. The election of officers resulted X.as follows: —Advisory presidents, Messrs G. E. Allen and A. Ross; chairman, Mr A. Fisher; secretary, Mr I. Thompson; treasurer. Mr T. Orr; club reporter. Mr N. Knutson; committee. Messrs L. Renall, I. Rose, B. Brasell, M. Thompson, and Fisher; auditor. Mr L. H. Smart. Messrs G. E. Allen, A. Fisher and I. Thompson were appointed delegates to attend the annual meeting of the Wairarapa federated clubs. A donation of £1 Is was made to the P. and A. Society in appreciation of the use of the room throughout (he year. Mr D. L. Taverner is to be asked to speak at the April meeting of the club on “Farm Accountancy"

Mr Sam Broadbent, of Hamilton, arrived in Carterton yesterday on a visit to his brother, Mr A. Broadbent, South Carterton. Mr and Mrs Hughan, of Pembroke Street, are visiting Hastings and Wellington. Mr Hughan is recuperating after his recent illness. Miss Nicholls, daughter of Mr and Mrs Percy Nicholls, of Costly Street. Carterton, who has resided in Waipukurau for some time, left Carterton yesterday to take up a position with Messrs Whitehead and Pearson, Wellington. She was accompanied by her mother. Carterton Fire Brigade. Much interest is being taken in Carterton as to the doings of the Carterton Fire Brigade team which is competing at the Centennial demonstrations which commenced at Petone today. It is expected they will again uphold their reputation. but they will encounter keen competition against 60 brigades from all parts of New Zealand.
