MADE BY SIR STAFFORD CRIPPS NOT AN OFFICIAL MISSION. INFORMATION SOUGHT ON SOVIET FOREIGN POLICY. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. CHUNGKING. March 5. A revelation that Sir Stafford Cripps flew to Moscow instead of touring Sinkiang, as had been announced, and saw Soviet and Government officials to gain elucidation on Russian foreign policy, has aroused speculation among foreign observers. The British Embassy insists that he was on no official mission, .but it is considered natural that Whitehall will closely examine his report. Observers believe that this backdoor contact with Moscow may have an important bearing on Anglo-Russian relations. Sir Stafford flew direct to Moscow and broke the return Hight by motoring thousands of miles across Sinkiang. the huge Chinese province between Mongolia and Tibet. He found no evidence of Russian military occupation. The Chinese enjoy the friendliest of relations with the Russians, who are giving a great deal of technical assistance, but the Chinese leaders are Insistent on the maintenance of Sinkiang as an integral part of China.
