FORCED LANDING
PLANE SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. March 4. A forced landing in a field near the coast at the mouth of the Awakino River was made this afternoon by a Royal New Zealand Air Force pilot Hying a service machine from Hobsonville Air Base to Ohakea. It is stated that oil pressure trouble developed and the pilot decided to make an emergency landing. Though a wing was slightly damaged the pilot escaped unhurt. The damage was caused .when the machine hit a fence after landing. It had almost completed its run and was slowing down. One of the wing-tips was slightly buckled and it is not expected that much trouble will be experienced in making the plane airworthy again.
Later in the afternoon a machine from New Plymouth flew over the fielc and dropped equipment for tying the damaged plane down. It was made secure for the night, and the pilot was taken to Awakino.
