LABOUR PARTY
i BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Eketahuna branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held in the Odd Fellows' Hall on Saturday night. The president. Mr G. A. Hansen, presided over an excellent attendance of members. Six nominations for membership were accepted. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to a stalwart worker. Mrs A. S. Carter, who is at present an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr Hansen, who gave a comprehensive report on the year’? work, received a warm vote of thanks. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr G. A. Hansen; vice-pre-. sident, Mr E. D. Toohill; secretary. Mrs G. M. Hooper (all re-elected); executive committee, Messrs C. Dillon. E. Mason, H. Dearie, L. S. Neal. E. A. Niederer; delegates to Masterton L.R.C., Messrs L. M. Brown and E. A. Niedercr; social committee, Mesdames A. S Carter, Aston, and Miss M. Hooper, Messrs B. Bradley. E. A. Niederer. and S. Daniel; honorary auditor, Mr E. A. Niederer. It was decided that where brand members enlisted for overseas service, they would be kept financial for the duration of the war.
Mr H. Dearie will be the speaker at the next monthly meeting, when he will give a talk on his recent visit to England.
OBITUARY MRS MANGUSON. The late Mrs Manguson whose death occurred at Christchurch last week was born in Masterton 65 years ago and was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Murrell. She was married in Eketahuna, and Mr Manguson successively conducted the Commercial. Ranfurly and Club hotels here. When no-licence was carried he took over the Club Hotel in Pahiatua. Of late years, Mrs Manguson had resided at Christchurch. One son, Mr Hector Manguson, is left to mourn his loss. Another son. Norman, predeceased her some years ago.
PATRIOTIC FUND DANCE HELD LAST NIGHT. The dance held in the Town Hall last night in aid of Patriotic Funds, proved an outstanding success, and as a result a substantial amount will be handed over to the committee. Visitors were present from all the surrounding districts and all had a right royal time. Among the guests were four members of the complement of H.M.S. Achilles. Excellent music was supplied by the Eketahuna Concert Orchestra, and the extras were kindly supplied by Messrs Keith Fletcher and P. Holford. The M.C's. were Messrs H. E. Greathead and Shale. The supper was of the buffer variety and this was very enjoyable. The door takings were in the vicinity of £3O. Bowling. On Saturday afternoon on the Eketahuna Club's greens, a Dannevirke rink was successful in its challenge for the Bryne Cup, defeating the holders by 30/20. The local club was represented by Messrs A. D. Murray, J. Ammundsen, F. Hooper and W. Simpson (s). Personal. Mr W. Minogue, formerly Postmaster at Eketahuna, has been appointed Chief Postmaster at Napier.
