Attempts to get vessels with cargoes from the United Kingdom to call . at Bluff have been successful. Reporting to a meeting of the council of the Invercargill Chamber of Commetce, Mr 11. L. Mair said that two boats—one from the west coast of England and one from London—would sail in April for Bluir direct. Advice of that had been forwarded to Invercargill importers. Referring to transhipments of cargo for Invercargill merchants. the president of the chamber (Mr W. Grieve) said that the continuity of shipments to Bluff kept up the status of the port, and they should do all they could to see that transhipments of ' overseas cargo should be made direct to Bluff. Local merchants had instructed shippers to ship cargoes to Wellington and have them transhipped direct to Bluff.
