Watson and D. McKay (Wellington), were weekend guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton. One of New Zealand's best all-round athletes. Mr E. W. Tindill. Wellington, will soon enter Trentham Camp as a member of the pay office for the third echelon of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The death occurred in Palmerston North on Saturday of Mr George Henry Bennett, founder of the firm of G. H. Bennett and Co, booksellers, Palmerston North, at the ago of 73 years. Chief Mechanician Leslie Hood, of H. Achilles, who was recently awarded the D.S.M., is al present visiting his parents. Mr and Mrs Frank Hood, of Kahautara. Mr George Barr, Jtinr., who was recently admitted to the Masterton Hospital with an injured knee, has now returned to the residence of his grandparents, Mr and Mrs J. G. Graham. 72 Dixon. The presentation of a safety razor was made by the Stationmaster, Mr Campbell, on behalf of the assembled stall to Mr Pat Dyer, of the Masterton Railway Station staff. Banks has been appointed local director and attorney in New Zealand of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Limited, and of the New Zealand Mining Trust Agency and Trustee Company Limited, according to advice received from London. Mr Banks was formerly battery superintendent of the Martha Company. The position to which ho has now been appointed was held till recently by Mr R. G. Milligan, who resigned to take up a commercial post in Australia.

Advice that their son. Pilot Officer John Stewart Mitchell, lost his life as a result of air operations on March 2, has been received by Mr and Mrs A. S. Mitchell, 34 Kent Terrace. Wellington. Pilot Officer Mitchell was 21 years ot age. He left New Zealand in September. 1938, on a short service commission in the Royal Air Force. He was educated al Wellington College, and before joining the R.A.F. was on the clerical staff of the Wellington City Council, in the city engineer's department. He was well known in Wellington Rugby circles. The funeral of the late Mr John Eaward Dickason, which took place in Masterion on Saturday afternoon, was largely attended. The Rew T. V. Pearson conducted a service at the Chapel a.nd also at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were in evidence, including those from the following: Fellow workers at Waingawa Freezing Works.
