CARTERTON’S DAY
CENTENNIAL PROCESSION — i GAY SCENE THIS AFTERNOON. LARGEST CROWD FOR YEARS. ("Times-Age 1 ’ Special.) One of the largest crowds seen in Carterton for many years assembled this afternoon to view theprocession marking the Centennial of settlement in Nev/ Zealand. Under the-pleasant weather conditions which prevailed after the substantial fall of- rain yesterday, everything appeared delightfully fresh. The procession- was an excellent one and reflected much credit on the organisers. Features of- the display were the pageant of transport, in which a striking contrast was provided between old and modern forms of transport. Pioneer settlers were prominent in the procession, which also included school children, the R.S.A., Scouts. Girl Guides,- Fire Brigade, and other bodies, besides decorated bicycles and cars. The Carterton School Band and the Wairarapa Scottish Pipe Band provided the music. The-procession" m oved" off' along" gaily decorated streets, thronged with onlookers. to the Showgrounds, where a sports programme was held;
