GALLANT AIRMAN

DECORATED BY THE KING. ATTACKS ON ENEMY PLANES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 29. The King has approved the • award of the Distinguished Flying Medal to Sergeant Frank Reginald Carey, “in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy.” Sergeant Carey, with his section leader, during January engaged an enemy aircraft over the North sea while it was attacking shipping. Again in February, while leading a section of two aircraft, he engaged an enemy aircraft over the North Sea and shot it down. Low cloud was present during these engagements, but Sergeant Carey’s initiative, determination and skill prevented the enemy from taking cover in it and brought the engagement to a successful conclusion.
