ROAR OF PLANES
AGAIN HEARD OVER BERLIN BRITISH RECONNAISSANCE FLIGHT. BALTIC PORTS ALSO VISITED. Residents of Berlin were again awakened last night by the roar of aeroplane engines when the Royal Air Force carried out a reconnaissance flight, one of the most extensive yet undertaken,, Daventry reports. Other places visited included many parts of north-west Germany and Baltic ports while the usual security patrol was conducted over German bases in the Heligoland Bight. No opposition was met with and all the British machines returned safely.
ALL MACHINES RETURN ■ FLIGHTS MOST EXTENSIVE OF WAR. IMPORTANT RAIL JUNCTION IDENTIFIED. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, March 1. The Royal Air Force flights over Germany last night were the most extensive since the outbreak of war. The flights ranged from six to ten hours and all the aircraft returned safely. The pilot of one machine was able to identify an important railway 7 junction seventeen miles south of Berlin. He dropped three parachute flares over the junction before continuing on to Berlin. The British airmen did not sight any enemy fighters and the ground batteries did not open fire. GERMAN CLAIMS ATTACKS ON BRITISH CONVOYS. “SHIPS OF HIGH TONNAGE SUNK.” (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) BERLIN, March 1. The Official News Agency, claiming that German warplanes today attacked numbers of British warships on convoy duty and armed merchantmen, says that several ships of high tonnage were sunk by bombs and several others set on fire. One convoy group was broken up. BRITISH STATEMENT DENIAL OF GERMAN REPORT. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 1.
