THE DARDANELLES
POSSIBLE ITALIAN CLAIM. DISPATCH OF WARSHIPS TO BLACK SEA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. ROME, March 1. A semi-official statement says that Italy may claim full application of the Montreux Convention to allow, subject to Turkish consent, the dispatch of warships through the Dardanelles to the Black Sea in order to protect traffic. The immediate cause of the statement is a report that Britain has already sought this permission.
