Some interest has been caused in the history of a kahawai hook faced with paua shell which has .just been presented to the Canterbury Museum by Mrs S. Trail, of Hagley Avenue. Commenting on the hook yesterday the ethnologist (Mr R. S. Dull') said that the hook was from Temuka. this being the first lime he had heard of one of the hooks being associated with the South Island. The hook is said Io have been originally in the possession of the chief. Tamaiharoa. of Temuka. and camo into the possession of Europeans about 60 years ago. It was obvious that the hook was old. whether! it was actually made in the South Island or not. !
