PETROL IMPORTS
PROPOSED ADOPTION OF STANDARD. OPPOSED BY NORTH ISLAND MOTOR UNION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The restriction of petrol imports to a certain standard grade was opposed by the North Island Motor Union conference yesterday. It was stated that representations had been made to have this done on the ground that restriction on imported super grades would permit of some saving in dollar exchange. The conference expressed concern on the grounds that the saving would be absolutely negligible and that the inconvenience and reduced mileage of motorists would be considerable. It was stated that a similar suggestion was made in Australia and met with the same objections.
