EFFECT OF WAR
SHORTAGE OF HAIR SUPPLIES.
One very decided effect the war has had on Hollywood has been the cutting off of hair supplies for making beards and wigs. Until Germany absorbed Poland and Czechoslovakia and other Central European countries became isolated by the war, Hollywood obtained most of its human hair from women of these countries, who grew it especially for the movie market. Studios annually use about five tons of hair, mostly human, for beards and wigs, and with the European human hair market lost, at least temporarily, make-up men are using the next best ; thing, which happens to be the hair of I the Tibetan yak and the Angora goat I and the manes of certain breeds of j horses. 1 **’*i«’.*r-
