FAREWELL GATHERING
TO MR & MRS C. MEYRICK. Mr and Mrs C. Meyrick and family who will leave Carterton on Tuesday next to take up their residence at Taihape were last evening tendered a farewell social. Mr Meyrick’s railway associates and friends gathered at his home in Wyndham Street, where a most enjoyable time was spent. Games and competitions were indulged in. At a suitable break in the proceedings Mr Julius referred to the departure of Mr C. Meyrick, who had been on the railway staff for a number of years, latterly at Carterton, and who was being transferred as ganger in charge of the Taihape section. His fellow railway employees were sorry that he was leaving, and he felt sure that his friends were also. They all wished him success in his promotion and asked him to accept as a token of their esteem a pair of blankets, for Taihape was an entirely different climate to the Wairarapa and in the winter time, which was approaching, the blankets should be doubly welcome. Mr J. Bennett and Mr D. Jensen also spoke. Mr Meyrick thanked them for their useful present and said he was sorry to leave his railway associates and friends in Carterton, but promotion meant-a lot to him in his career. Although many miles of rail would separate him, his wife and family from his friends in Carterton, they would always remember their kindness. Supper was provided and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought an enjoyable gathering to an end.
