PERSONAL ITEMS

Miss Williams. Wellington, stayed at the Empire Hotel, Masterton, yesterday. Miss K. Dight, of Auckland, is visiting Masterton and is the guest of Mrs R. Latham, Miriam Street. Mr and Mrs Ferrier. Auckland, were guests yesterday at the Empire Hotel. Masterton.

Miss G. Tooby, of Masterton, who has been the guest of Mrs A. Fisher, Elmar Avenue. Palmerston North, has returned home.

Miss Mary Paterson, of Pahiatua, daughter of Dr and Mrs H. Paterson, recently gained her B.A. degree at Otago University. ■Mrs Striqkland, Senr., of Bannister Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Auckand where she met her son, Mr Maurice Strickland, the wellknown boxer, his wife and child, who arrived from America.

Mr and Mrs S. J. Irwin, Invercargill, left yesterday for Wellington, where they will live in future. Mr Irwin is the newly-appointed senior inspector of primary schools in Wellington.

Recent visiters to Wellington as delegates to the Florists’ Telegraph Delivery Association, were Miss Jessie MacKenzie (Masterton>, Mrs R. Tankersley (Carterton), Miss Olive Madsen (Martinborough), and Miss Zeta Swain (Pahiatua).

There was a large gathering of friends and relatives at the residence of. Mr and Mrs Sweet, Mairenui. Ruahine Road. Mangaweka, on the occasion of their golden wedding. Mrs Sweet was ably assisted in entertaining her guests by her daughter, Miss Sweet, and Miss Valmai Richardson. her niece. Tea was served and the health of the host and hostess given with musical honours, and later the guests wandered round the garden, gay with flowers. Among those present were Mesdames Leo Buckeridge (Nelson), Edwards (Nelson) and Gawith (Masterton), sisters of Mrs Sweet, Mesdames Deighton, Pairman. Guthrie, Dalrymple, Laxon Sweet. Trewley, Deroles, Waymouth, Whyte (Taihape), and Robinson, Miss Deighton. Messrs Laxon Sweet, Richardson, Gawith, Deighton, Dalrymple, Whyte, Waymouth and Guthrie.
