EKETAHUNA

WEDDING MITCHELL-ANDERSON. ("Times-Age" Special.) A pretty wedding of considerable local interest was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church. Eketahuna. on Saturday when Gwennyth Ellen younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Anton Anderson. Alfredton Road. Eketahuna. was married to John, eldest son of Mi and Mrs William Mitchell, Lower Hutt. The church had been prettily decorated with blue hydrangeas, dahlias and sweet peas by girl friends of the bride. The Rev David McNeur. Masterton. was the officiating minister. Mr Frank Robinson played the wedding music, and during the signing of the register. Miss Muriel Smith sweetly rendered the solo "Bless This House.” The bride, who was escorted by her father, made a charming picture in a gown of ivory satin and ivory lace. cut on classical lines. Her beautiful veil of net of the same shade was held in place by a halo of orange blossom. She carried a lovely bouquet of white dahlias, lilies and maiden hair fern.

The bride was attended by her cousin, Miss Joyce Eustege, as bridesmaid who was dressed in a frock of blue figured taffeta, cut on Elizebethan lines with a halo of net of the same shade. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations, lilies and maiden-hair fern. Mr Edward Mitchell supported his brother as best man.

At the reception held at the Odd Fellows’ Hall, Mr and Mrs Anderson entertain a large number of guests. Mrs Anderson wore a brown and tan costume, with hat to tone, and her posy was of autumn tints. Mrs Mitchell, the bridegroom’s mother, assisted, wearing a floral frock, with black sheer coat and black' hat with trimmings to match, her posy consisting of pink and red blooms. The beautifully iced threetier cake held pride of place on the bridal table, and after the usual toasts were honoured, Mr and Mrs Mitchell left by cai’ on a tour of the North Island, the bride travelling in a navy ensemble, with navy hat, veil and accessories to match. Mr and Mrs Mitchell’s home will beat Lower Hutt.

Included among the guests were Mr and Mrs E. Anderson and son (Palmerston North), Mr and Mrs W. Phillips, Mrs G. Lawrence, Mrs F. Eustege, Mr and Mrs J. Trigger, Mrs W. Jamieson, Mrs R. Wilson, Mr J. Jamieson, Junr, Misses R. Hamilton, M. and B. Mitchell, Messrs C. Wiren, C. Pickett, Les Edhouse, O. Scott, R. Mitchell, J. McKay (all of Wellington), Miss M. Kidd and Mr K. Anderson (Wanganui).

LABOURERS’ UNION MEETING OF MEMBERS. The general meeting of the Wellington General Labourers’ Union was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Friday night, when Mr M. O’Grady, organiser, presided over an excellent attendance of members. Mr P. Butler, general secretary, attended anff gave a very interesting address on the various aspects of. the union for which he received a hearty vote of thanks. , A very keen discussion ensued on the various clauses of the awards, all questions asked being satisfactorily answered by Mr Butler. Mr S. Daniel, of Eketahuna, was appointed the local agent- of the Union, and Messrs S. Daniel and F. Hooper were appointed Eketahuna delegates to the Masterton Labour Representation Committee. A vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, concluded the meeting. SOLDIER HONOURED GUEST AT SOCIAL. A very happy time was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs T. Hooper, Alfredton Road, on Friday night, the occasion being a social given in honour of Mr Hooper’s son, Mr J. Hooper, of Christchurch, who is proceeding to the Papakura Military Camp. Mr W. Dawsett presided and the time passed pleasantly in song and story. Mr Dawsett, on behalf of those present, thanked Mr and Mrs Hooper for their kind invitation to be present. He wished the guest of the evening a happy army life, and hoped they would have the opportunity of meeting him again before he left New Zealand. A. delicious supper was partaken of after which the gathering terminated with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Personal Items. Mrs F. Hooper and Miss M. Hooper are visiting Wellington. Mrs J. Matthews and family. Saunder’s Road are visitors to Eketahuna.
