Hotel Midland weekend guests were Messrs W. Leatham (Napier), L. Chetwin (Palmerston North). J. Mansfield. W. Moeller (Wellington).
Mr A. Morris, public accountant, has been appointed secretary ot the Christchurch Citizens' Association in place of Mr S. F. Marshall, who has resigned because he has accepted another position.
Messrs R. Morgan, B. Harris, E. Grainger, and C. G. Scrimgeour (Wellington) passed through Masterton at the weekend after attending the reception to the Achilles in Auckland. They stayed at the Prince of Wales Hotel.
Mr Alfred W. Pitt has been appointed headmaster of St Matthew's Victory Memorial School. St Albans, Christchurch. He takes the place of Mr G. McConnell, who has enlisted for overseas service.
Messrs G. B. Oldfield (Hastings). E. Simpson (East Coast), D. I-loskings, R. H. Brisco (Tinui), A. P. ’Collins. C. Kirk (Wellington), and B. Reilly were weekend guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton.
Mr E. A. Christie has been elected president of the United Kingdom Manufacturers' and New Zealand Representatives’ Association. Messrs H. S. Hart, H. P. Wrigley, and S. Burnell Browne have been elected vice-presi-dents.
The death occurred at Gisborne yesterday of Mr Ernest Charles Stackwood. formerly a resident of the Wairarapa district. For several years he was farming in the Lower Valley. He is survived by his wife and Miss Conny Stack wood, who arc both patients in the Gisborne Hospital, besides another daughter, Mrs K. Scott < Petone >. Miss Keithn Stackwood, a third daughter, who was a member of the Masterton County Council staff, died about two years ago.
