CARTERTON

TRIP TO EXHIBITION CHILDREN ENJOY THEMSELVES. (“Times-Age” Special.) A large number of children attending the. Carterton District High School were yesterday taken to the Exhibition in Mr Ben Sewell’s school bus. Other parties of children from the school will be taken to the Exhibition at later periods. The children yesterday were greatly pleased with the outing and are looking forward to a further visit. Carterton Races. It is pleasing to note that a good response has been made in connection with the nominations for the annual meeting of the Carterton Racing Club. The entries are considerably in excess of last year's total. Given good weather the meeting should be a success. Personal Items. At the meeting of the South Wairarapa County Council the chairman, when welcoming Cr J. K. Strang, the newly-elected councillor, to a seat at the table, remarked it was indeed encouraging to note that the sons of ex-councillors had thought fit to take an interest in municipal government. Those who were serving on the council were Crs A. E. Reid, A. McGregor and J. K. Strang, and he felt sure that their deliberations would always be in the direction of good government. Miss Abbott, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Abbott, of Chester Road, Clareville, has gone to Nelson to spend a holiday. LATE MR GOODIN FUNERAL YESTERDAY. The funeral of the late Mr Herbert Goodin took place yesterday afternoon and was very largely attended. Relatives and friends, from the Forty Mile Bush, Wellington, and all parts of Wairarapa, were present to pay their last tribute of respect to a settler who was held in high esteem. Many beautiful wreaths were received as well as messages of sympathy, v A short service was conducted at the late home of the deceased by the Rev W. F. Stent, who afterwards took the service at the graveside. The Druids’ service was conducted by P.D.P. Bro A. E. Reid. The pallbearers were: From the house to the hearse. Messrs A. E. Hall, L. W. Hundell, C. Johnston, D. Goodin, Bros A. Johnson and W. C. Jimmison; from the hearse to the graveside, Bros H. J. McKenzie, C. Swinn, F. Taplin, L. Smith, H. Bain and A. E. Reid.
