OVER BERLIN
FLIGHTS BY ROYAL AIR FORCE COLOURED SEARCHLIGHTS USED BY GERMANS. AUSTRIA AND BOHEMIA ALSO VISITED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. February 23. During last night another successful reconnaisance flight was carried out by R.A.F. planes over Austria and Bohemia, a Daventry report states. This is the second occasion this flight has been carrid out, the previous occasion being on January 12, when R.A.F. planes flew over Vienna and Prague as well as over north-west Germany. It is not generally known that since the war started R.A.F. planes have flown over Berlin and have secured valuable information concerning the defences. In order to test out the defence the planes have allowed themselves to be caught in the German searchlights to see what would happen. One of the reasons for this is that the Germans have been experimenting with coloured searchlights to see if they would penetrate further. These experiments have apparently not met with any success. The only comment by the British airmen'was that they “looked very pretty.”
