ESPIONAGE PLOT
DISCOVERED IN HOLLAND FOREIGNER AMONG SUSPECTS SOLDIERS CAUGHT ESCAPING FROM INTERNMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. AMSTERDAM, February 23. The police discovered a widespread espionage plot and arrested six suspects, one of whom was a foreigner, after seeing two foreign soldiers escaping from internment. It is revealed in Amsterdam for the first time that an unspecified number of German Air Force officers and sergeants, who were forced down in Holland, have been interned in a fortress near Edam. All are on parole and are allowed considerable freedom, but no attempts have been made to escape, though they have been interned for a long time. A sergeant was permitted to go to Germany in order to marry, on condition that he returned. He kept his word, bringing back the bride, who is living near Edam. Luxembourg, is strengthening her frontier defences, specially on the roads and bridges, and concrete and steel fortications are being placed at numerous strategic points. A message yesterday stated that 24 members of the Dutch Nazi Party have been arrested. It is alleged that they engaged in military training at night time.
