MR CASEY’S APPOINTMENT APPROVAL IN WASHINGTON. CONFERENCE WITH BRITISH ATTACHES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 23. Mr R. G. Casey (Australian Minister) conferred at the British Embassy with the naval, military and air attaches. with the object of early acquaintance, since at present he is relying on their co-operation. The first editorial comment in the Washington Press has appeared in the “Post” which, says: “Political uncertainty in the Far East has increased the desirability of continuous contact between the United States and the great British Dominion in the Pacific. The time is ripe for the establishment of formal diplomatic representation. Mr Casey, who has had a most distinguished career in his own country, will be welcomed in Washington, alike for his attractive personality and because of the esteem in which Americans hold his young and vigorous country. It is hoped that his arrival will hasten the Congressional appropriation for an American Minister to Canberra.” (Mr Gauss cannot take up his duties until Congress authorises outlays.)
