COURSING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS. FIRST PLUMPTON IN APRIL. At the fourteen annual meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms there were present Mr J. Bradbury (chairman), Mrs Spring, Messrs L. M. Archer. R. Andrew, S. Geary, A. Parkes, S. Kjar, J. Hare, R. McEwen, S. Gerrand, W. James. J. Hanley, M. Wing. J. Wing, S. Potangaroa, W. Mosen, R. Wilton. J. Bradbury, N. Archer, B. Archer, W. Jensen, L. Jones. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Williams, A. Ross, W. Spring. F. Allen, J. Kerslake and W. Buick. The annual report and balance sheet was adopted on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Geary. In commenting on the report, Mr Bradbury emphasised the fact that it had been impossible to thank everyone adequately for the assistance given to the club during the year. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr A. Ross; president, Mr J. Bradbury; vicepresidents, Mesdames M. S. Buick and Gilman, Messrs L. M. Archer, G. A. Vincent, F. Yule. J. A. Kerslake, S. D. Geary. C. E. Grey. D. Stewart, R. Williams. W. R. Pringle, J. A. Taylor, J. H. Payton, S. Barber, T. V. Caverhill. J. Watson, A. Donald. S. Cooper, Carl Larsen. E. Carney, E. J. Wing. W. Buick. Mr W. Buick was elected vicepresident with power to act. Honorary auditor. Mi- D. B. Curry. Secretary, Mr E. K. Eastwood.
Dissatisfaction was expressed at the treatment of the club’s equipment by the A. and P. stewards on show day and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Jensen, seconded by Mr McEwen, "that a letter be forwarded by the president to the A. and P. Association requesting more judicial handling of the club's property, and that should any shifting be necessary, the club’s committee be approached to superintend it.”
It was decided that the opening Plumpton meeting be held on April 27. The meeting was advised that, the club had been allotted the running of the Derby and Oaks for 1940 and although the dates had nbt yet been approved, they would probably be June 1 and 3. The incoming committee was asked to watch the interests of the club insofar as these dates were concerned.
It was decided to hold a hare drive next Sunday, the party to leave Harcombe’s Garage at 9.30 a.m.
On the motion of Mr W. Jensen, seconded by Mr S. Geary, it was resolved that the club spend approximately £7 10s on new nets and that an endeavour be made to procure them before next weekend.
The resignation of Mr Lethaby was accepted. Mr Potangaroa offered the use of i paddock two miles out of town for tin hare racing. He would undertake io have it cleared and prepared if the .’lub accepted the offer, a condition being that he retains all catering rights. Mr Potangaroa was thanked for his offer, and it was decided to leave the proposition to the incoming committee to consider.
It was decided to reduce the numoer on the committee to ten and as there were fifteen nominations, the following were elected: —Messrs L. Archer, J. Hare. R. McEwen. S. Kjar, S. Geary. J. Hanley. W. Jensen. R. Andrew. R. Wilton, L. Jones.
