SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. I (“Times-Age” Special.) , Al the first meeting of the year of I the local school committee there were I present Messrs Mclntosh (chairman). I Sutton (secretary). Duggan. Riwai and Carter. Accounts amounting to £55 13s 8d were passed for payment. The head teacher wrote thanking the committee for its co-operation and assistance during the past year. The action of the secretary in procuring a wreath on behalf of the committee for the late Mr McDougall’s funeral was endorsed. A long discussion ensued concerning the holding of the annual picnic. The committee finally resolved to hold the annual picnic on Friday, March 8 on the property of the McDougall Estate. It was decided to considerably curtail the prize list. Messrs Priest, Sutton and Riwai were appointed judges, Mr S. Mclntosh handicapper and starter, and Mr J. Carter announcer. The secretary was instructed to write to the secretary of the Tuhitarata School Committee advising him of the dates of the picnic. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall, Mrs Spicer presiding over a fair attendance of members. After the business of the meeting had been completed an amusing competition was held entitled "Find Your Partner,” which was won by Miss Hanlon. A competition for the best treacle bread was won by Mrs Marshall, with Mrs H. Gaudin second. Miss Hanlon gave an interesting demonstration of smocking which was greatly appreciated. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames H. Gaudin. G. Thomas and Miss Scrimegour. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs N. Evans, Lower Hutt, were visitors at the weekend. Miss D. Winterburn, Otaki. is staying with Mrs Carter. Mr and Mrs Enoka were weekend visitors to Porirua for the parish conference. Mrs A. Simeon, who was visiting relatives here, has returned to Feilding. Mr Joseph Busch, who died in Masterton recently, resided in this district for some years and was a brother of the late Mr George Busch
