CARTERTON

BOWLING GRADY MEDALS CONTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) Messrs W. C. Robertson and C. J. DeLacey, of the Carterton Club, went to Greytown last evening and played a game against the holders of the Grady Medals, but were not successful. The scores were: Sheddon and Higginson (s) 23. Robertson and DeLacey (s), 17. COLLISION WITH LORRY FARMER BADLY INJURED. A serious accident occurred on Park Road, Carterton, at about 4.15 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Mr Herbert Goodin, a farmer, was cycling into town and when opposite Mr E. Williams's residence, he crossed the road •in front of an oncoming motor lorry, laden with sheep. He was struck by the lorry and thrown heavily to the road, receiving very serious injuries to his right shoulder and right arm and abrasions on the face. The lorry was driven by Mr W. A. Pinfold, who gave every assistance to the injured man as did some county workmen who were working near the spot when the accident occurred. Drs. Wells and Campbell were quickly upon the scene and after they had attended to the injured man he was removed to Croydon Hospital. Mr Goodin’s bicycle was badly damaged. He had a miraculous escape from being killed. It is surmised that he did not see the lorry approachingand being deaf did not hear it coming. Upon inquiry a 1 the hospital this morning it was ascertained that Mr Goodin had passed a good night. TENNIS CARRINGTON PARK TEAM. The Carrington Park team to play St. Matthew’s, at Carrington Park, will be selected from the following players:—H. Parker, J Fitzgerald, IVI. Read, G. Townsend, L. DeLacey, W. Vaughan, N. Archer, Mesdames H. Parker and G. Steffert, Misses A, Williams, N. Williams, Mrs Jensen. Misses Copeland and George. THE CENTENNIAL PROCESSIONAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Processional Committee in connection with the Centennial celebrations was held last evening, Mr R. P. Wakelin in the chair. It was decided that the procession | take the form of a pageant of transport and that Messrs. G. S. George and T. T. Hughes take charge of that portion of the procession. Mr J. Finn was appointed to take charge of the section representing pioneer business firms. The procession will assemble promptly at Victoria Street and leave not later than 1.30 p.m. Mr Forbes’s offer to arrange for a loud speaker and the announcing of the procession was accepted with thanks. The entertainment effects were left to Mr Wilf. Harry. Messrs G. S. George and T. T. Hughes were entrusted with arrangements to procure a demonstration by the Maoris. Nurse Farewelled. Nurse Goodall, who has been in charge of the Plunket Society at Carterton for some time, has completed her term and is to leave for further training in Wellington. She has given considerable assistance to the Red Cross Society and at a meeting of the latter body Mrs R. N. Campbell asked Nurse Goodall to accept a leather suit case as a slight token of the Society’s appreciation of the assistance she had rendered the Red Cross movement. They regretted her departure and wished her good luck in her new sphere of labours. Miss Goodall suitably' returned thanks. Supper was afterwards partaken of. Nurse Edgley, of Napier, has been appointed to take charge of the Carterton Society. Personal Items. The Rev. H. White, Methodist Minister at Carterton, will attend the Methodist Conference at Dunedin. Mr Gothard, Woodville, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday. Bro. Jas. Fisher, of the Carterton Lodge of Foresters, was at the District Conference held in Wellington last week elected to the office of District Sub-Chief Ranger. Among Wairarapa members seeking representation in connection with the management of the Wellington District Order of Manchester Unity Odd Fellows at the annual conference to be held in Wellington on March 2, are Bros. R. Farrow (Eketahuna). for the Deputy G.M. chair and Bros. R. Baikie (Masterton). R. Farrow (Eketahuna), and G. S. Bruce (Carterton), for a seat on the Management Committee.
