AERO CLUB

COMFORTS FOR AIRMEN. FUND OPENED IN MASTERTON. At a recent meeting of the Finance Committee of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club (Inc.) a suggestion from one of the Club’s members to promote gliding to take the place of flying for the duration of the war was considered, and it was resolved to refer the proposal to the next annual meeting of members. A new association has been formed called "Ail 1 Force Relations” for the purpose of collecting funds and providing comforts for New Zealand airmen on active service in hospitals, and for prisoners of war. In addition to donations. clothing such as scarves, pullovers, socks, mittens and balaclavas, foodstuffs including condensed milk, honey, wrapped toffee, barley sugar, chocolate, peanut butter, tomato juice, tomatoes, tinned meats and vegetables and other items, for example, books and playing cards arc required. Members of the committee resolved to give as much support to the new association as possible and at the meeting the sum of £lO 10s was subscribed as lhe nucleus of a fund for the Wairarapa. The following is the list of donors: —A. McDonald £2 2s. J. W. Buchanan £2 2s, E. A. Heyder £2 2s H. J. W. Lord £2 2s, N. G. Whiteman £2 2s. It was also decided lo form a ladies’ organisation to be responsible for the collection of comforts and foodstuffs, and already there have been several offers of co-operation in making garments and other articles required. Members of the club are to be circularised for the pinpose of seeking their co-operation in providing the various'comforts and any friends, relatives or helpers may assist. Parcels may be left at the residence of Mrs 11. J. W. Lord. 58 Essex Street. Mastertoil, at at the offices of Messi's Dunderdttle and Gray, secretaries of the Wairarapa and Rtiahine Aero Club.
