ENEMY VESSEL
CAPTURED BY BRITISH WARSHIP FURTHER NEUTRAL LOSSES. SINKING OF FRENCH LINER REPORTED BY GERMANS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON. February 18. A British warship captured a German steamer thought to be the Morea (1927 tons) en route from Spain to Germany with manganese ore, and brought her to a West of England port. Thirty members of the crew were interned.
The Navy now has captured two of the six German ships which tried to dash to Germany from Vigo. The othe£ one captured and taken to port was the Rostock.
It is reported from Amsterdam that the Norwegian steamer Kvernaas (1819 tons) was sunk in the North Sea by a mine or a torpedo. The crew of 20 were landed in Holland. The Dutch steamer Ameland (4537 tons) was mined in the North Sea. The crew was saved. The Swedish steamers Liana and Osmed were sunk in the North Sea. Ten members of the crew of the Liana were drowned and 10 were rescued. There are seven survivors from the Osmed, 14 of whose crew were drowned. Captain Smiles, with a 10,000-ton tanker almost bisected by a torpedo and half submerged, sailed her for four days in the North Sea until a warship landed him and 41 survivors out of the crew of 44 al a Scottish port. The German official news agency claims the sinking of the French liner Emile Miguet (15,436 tons). No details are given. ______
