DESTROYER LOST
WITH TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE OFFICER AND FOUR SEAMEN PICKED UP. COMMANDER AMONG MISSING. The British destroyer, H.M.S. Daring, has been torpedoed, a radio message states, one officer and four ratings have been picked up, but nine officers and 114 ratings are missing. Among the missing ,is Commander S. A. Cooper. H.M.S. Daring was a 1400-ton destroyer of the Defender class and was completed in 1932. She was armed with four 4.7-inch guns, six smaller guns and had eight 21-inch torpedoes. She was a sister ship of the Duchess, with, which she was in service in the China station. —By radio. ADMIRALTY LIST NINE OFFICERS AND 148 RATINGS. “MISSING AND FEARED LOST.” LONDON, February 19.
