MR C. E. BREMNER. The death occurred at Lower Hutt lasi Monday of Mi' Chas. Edward Bremner, at one time engineer to the old Masterion Road Board, and subsequently to the Masterton County Council, commencing service with the former body at the latter end of 1878. and with the county in 1884. A naI live of Scotland, the late Mr Bremner was educated at the Glasgow and I Holensborough -schools and later al Victoria College. Jersey, and in Germany. Prior to coining to New Zealand in the ship "St Leonards" in 1874. he had followed a seafaring life, but on landing in Now Zealand with a very useful career ahead of him, he entered its Civil Service as a Public Works Department cadet, there qualifying as an engineer and taking up. in 1878, a position with the Masterton Road Board. Possessing a cheerful and sympathetic nature, the late Mr Bremner (whose children attended the Masterton School) was very popular during his residence in Masterton and the news of his death at a very advanced age will be received with considerable regret, more particularly as it was hoped that his presence at next month’s Centennial dinner to old pioneer residents might help to brighten that gathering.
