BOWLING BOOTH CUP MATCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) The postponed Booth Cup contest between Carterton and Featherston was played on Saturday in anything but favourable weather. The game resulted in favour of Featherston. The two rinks which journeyed to Featherston as well as the players at Carterton were hospitably entertained at afternoon tea. The results of the games were as follow. Featherston players mentioned first in each case:— At Carterton: Davis, Ayre, Anderson. Bloxam (s) drew with Smith, Underhill, Whyte, Harp (s) 19/19; Hutana Willett, Higgison, Deas (s) beat Callender. A. Thompson, G. Hart, Tucker (s) 24/14. At Featherston: Robinson. Clark, G’Neale, James (s) beat Newbould, W. Steven, R. Thompson, Sorensen (s) 21/8; Karitiana. McKenzie. Fuge, Rolls (s) lost to Harrington, Harris. DeLacey. Hughan (s) 11/32. TENNIS WIN FOR CARTERTON. During the weekend Carterton defeated a team from Wainui-o-ru on the Carterton courts by 15 matches, 158 games,, to 9 matches, 141 games. The results arc as follow, the name of the visitors being mentioned first in each case:— Men’s singles: Wellwood lost to Mackie 4-9; H. Parker beat Harrington 9-1; M. Parker beat Jensen 9-1; Read lost to Inder 0-9; Laing lost to Andrews 2-9; Mills lost to Munro 2-9. Ladies' singles: Mrs Richardson beat Miss Peters 8-5; Mrs Wellwood beat Miss Goodall 8-0; Mrs Mills beat Mrs Harrington 8-5; Mrs M. Parker lost to Mrs Hindley 5-8; Mrs H. Parker beat Miss Beaven 8-7; Mrs Read lost to Miss Pauling by default. Men's doubles: Wellwood and H. Parker lost to Mackie and Harrington 8-10; M. Parker and Read lost to Jensen and Inder 3-9; Laing and Mills lost to Andrews and Munro 4-9. Ladies’ doubles: Mesdames Richardson and Wellwood beat Misses Peters and Goodall 9-3; Mesdames Mills and Parker beat Mesdames Harrington and Hindley 9-6; Mes'dames H. Parker and Read lost to Misses Beaven and Pauling 6-9. Combined doubles: Mrs Richardson and Wellwood lost to Miss Peters and Mackie 7-9; Mrs Wellwood and Parker beat Miss Goodall and Harrington 9-5: Mrs Parker and Parker lost to Mrs Harrington and Jensen 6-9; Mrs Mills and Read lost to Mrs Hindley and Inder 7-9; Mrs Parker and Laing lost to Miss Beaven and Andrews 3-9; Mrs Read and Mills lost to Miss Pauling and Munro 8-9. Welcome Rain. The rain which fell on Saturday afternoon was very beneficial to pastures. Providing there is an absence of wind it will do thousands of pounds worth of good in the Wairarapa. Rain Spoils Sport. The rain on Saturday afternoon prevented the playing of tennis matches. Other sports which had commenced in good weather, were also seriously interfered with by the rain. Personal Items. At Saturday's meeting of the Carter Home Committee a vote of sympathy in his illness was passed to Councillor J. Udy, and the secretary was authorised to write wishing him a speedy recovery. At the meeting of the Carter Home Committee held on Saturday the chairman, Mr D. L. Taverner (Mayor) referred in sympathetic terms to the recent death of Mrs J. S. Laurenson, wife of the secretary to the Home, and a vote of condolence was passed to Mr Laurenson, members standing as a mark of respect to the memory -f deceased. Mr and Mrs S. Bodman, w.'-o havQ been visiting Carterton, have left for'Wellington en route for Christchurch and Dunedin. Mr Preston Edwards, of Kokotau, met with a painful accident at the weekend which necessitated his entering Croydon Hospital for treatment.
