DAY OF PRAYER

WORLD WIDE MOVEMENT. LOCAL OBSERVANCE YESTERDAY. As far back as 1887 women in the United States of America met together for a day of prayer. Interest in the day increased, and year b.y year one country and then another was added to the list of those holding meetings, and the first Friday in Lent has been accepted as the day set apart for this purpose. The local gathering was held yesterday in the Salvation Army Hall, when women connected with the Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Church of Christ, Salvation Army and Presbyterian bodies took part. Each period was led by a different speaker :md women came and went as was convenient. zXll the periods were well attended, and a spirit of quiet hopefullness marked the gathering. The theme “In quietness and confidence shall bo your strength” was impressed on all assembled, and the hymns, prayers and addresses breathed a spirit of hopeful confidence, which is so much needed at the present time, All present felt the privilege of uniting as one body, and caught a vision of those who are girdling the earth with prayer. The freewill offering for distressed people in Finland amounted to £4 3s Cd.
