RED CROSS SOCIETY EXAMINATION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Ockender, Matron of the Pahiatua Hospital (Home Nursing). WOMEN’S INSTITUTE NIREAHA MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women's Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon when Mrs J. Hawkins presided over a fair attendance of members. A general discussion took place on the question of making comforts for soldiers and all arrangements for the same were finalised. A tasty afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mrs O'NeilLand Miss I. Spring. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs R. Thomason in her recent bereavement. A motion of sympathy was also extended to Mrs F. Mason in hoi’ illness. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Personal Items. Mr Eric Spanks Kakariki, has entered the- service of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Wellington, as a cadet. Mrs F. Mason. Nireaha, is at present an inmate of the Bethany Hospital, Wellington. Mrs R. Barf, Palmerston North, has returned home after visiting her mother, Mrs P. Wilkin, Atea. Mr M. G. Wilkin. Atea, will enter the Papakura military camp next week. Mrs H. Palmer, Wellington, has returned from a visit, to her sister. Mrs R. Thomas, Atea. Mr and Mrs J. Takhan, of Awakino, have been the guests of the Misses Anderson, Alfredton Road, after an absence of 27 years from the district. Mr J. A. Reyden has been appointed assistant primary teacher at the District High School. Mr 11. J. Kenbin is relieving, at the primary department. District High School Opened. The District High School commenced the year with 140 primary pupils, while there are 50 attending the secondary department. The District High School's fancy dress ball, which was abandoned just prior to the holiday owing to an out-; break of chicken pox, will probably : take place in the near future. RIFLE SHOOTING ALFREDTON CLUB. The Alfredton Club held its weekly shoot on Saturday in a boisterous wind. Rifleman C. Morrison was in good form and was lop scorer with 95 off the gun. Scores:—C.
