ATTACKS ON THE YUNNAN RAILWAY ANTICIPATION OF CHINESE AIR RAIDS. DEFENCES STRENGTHENED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. TOKIO. February 8. Rear-Admiral Masao Kanazawa, the naval spokesman reiterated that Japan would bomb the Yunnan railway as long as it was used to move Chinese war supplies. Referring to the previous attack, he asserted that the bombers intended lo wreck the bridge instead of the train. Japan would recompense bona fide injured. Commenting on the Netherlands sugi gestion of preparations to increase the defences in the East Indies, he said that perhaps they could be attributed to misunderstanding of Japan's southward policy, which was solely economic. He further denied that Japan was constructing bases in South Pacific mandated areas. Il is authoritatively stated in Tokio that Japan has definite grounds for believing that the Chinese are planning air raids on Japan. While details are withheld, defences are being strengthened.
