TRUST AFFAIRS

BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. SCENERY FOR OPERA HOUSE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands -Trust was held last .light, the chairman, Mr H. P. Hugo, presiding. There were also present: Messrs J. Macfarlane Laing. E. G. Eton. A. Owen Jones. C. E. Grey. J. .H. Handyside, R. Krahagen, R. Page, and H. H. Daniell.

The tenants of four Trust houses in Macara Street wrote asking the Trustees to erect a new fence at the rear of their properties. Mr Jones suggested that a hedge should be planted, as it would .be much cheaper and would provide far better shelter. Several Trustees agreed to that course and it was decided to supply the tenants with the necessary plants to form a live fence.

The Trust decided to call tenders for the painting of six houses, and of the tool of the Dental Clinic building and of the Trust building. Members stressed lhe urgency of the work. Mr Jones objected to the specification of any particular brand of certain requirements in building or renovation work, maintaining that such requirements should be of a certain standard but not restricted to one particular brand.

Mr Dameil suggested that a separate ledger account should be kept for each of the Macara Street houses, with a view to keeping a cheek on the returns and upkeep of each house. ivlr Hugo pointed out that the scenery belonging to the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society and used by lessees of the Opera House was getting considerably knocked about. He thought the Trust should acquire a set of scenery and reminded members that £lOO had been placed on the estimates last year but had not been used, though some expenditure had been made for a stage cloth and sky borders. For £5O or £OO die Trust should be able to purchase a box set and if that were Jone, a charge of 1 or 2gns. could be made for its use. ,On the* motion of Mr Jones the chairman was asked to bring down a report on the mailer at the next meeting. On die motion of Mr Daniell it was decided that the Trust should write lo tlm Wairart.pn College Board of Cover'■or-: and ask ii if the £2(5 granted by the Trust to die College for a iilii.niaii had been used lor dial purpose. Mr Daniell said he understood that the money mid not been used in ihe dTcclion lor which it had been voted. He b.-.d also heard that i’.IKI books had disappeared from the library. lie did not know if that was correct or not.
