AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MASTERTON CLUB. NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAMME. The highlight of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club's events next week will be the appearance of E. Allen, Empire Games representative, ana one of the four members of the relay team which is to attempt to lower the four-mile record. Allen will run in a special race. There will be 75 yards and 220 yards senior races, points tc count for the Saunder's Cup. For the juniors there will be a 75 yards handicap and 220 yards handicap. The field events will consist of a javelin throw (open) and discus throw foi Saunder's Cup points. Ladies will rim a 100 yards handicap and 120 yards handicap. The distance event will be a -{-mile handicap. Members are requested to attend at 6.30 pan. sharp next Wednesday. At the Park Oval on Wednesday night A. Edwards ran his best race u. date in winning the senior 75 yards. D. Stratton, the second man, is now rapidly gaining form after his forced retirement. J. Eastwood was well up in third position without extendin, himself.

A newcomer to the club. D. Adams, was successful in the junior 75 yards, winning by a yard from P. O'Brien, with S. Faulkr.or third.

R. Wyeth was again successful in the half-mile, winning by inches from J. Wickens, who ran a great race. To see him in action was reminiscent of the old "Wick." B. Patrick, with a strong finishing burst ran into third position. W. A. C. Pullar was also a starter in this event, but ran an extra lap, making his distance three-quarters of a mile. His time for the distance was 3m. in. 13secs.

D. Adams repeated his performance of the 75 yards in the 440 yards junior by winning a well-judged race from S. Faulknor the virtual scratch marker. H. Hayes ran his usual good quarter to be in third position. The senior 100 yards championship resulted in a win for J. Eastwood, in the fast time of 10 2-ssees. D. Stratton ran a great race to finish in second place. M. Sellar was the surprise of the race by gaining third,
