EKETAHUNA

FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade was held last night, Deputy-Superintendent H. Daniel presiding over a fair attendance of members.

Accounts amounting to £6 16s 3d were passed for payment. The Woodville Brigade wrote stating that owing to the inability of members to practice the brigade would be unable to send a team to compete in the triangular shield competition to be held at Eketahuna on February 17. After a brief discussion it was. decided that the competition be held between Pahiatua and Eketahuna. and that Woodville be invited to send two men to compete in the dry events. Arrangements were completed for the entertainment of the visiting firemen and the following officials were appointed:—Starters, Messrs E. Lett and Gunn (Pahiatua); time-keepers, Fireman G. Jesson and hon. member W. J. Henderson; judges, Firemen H. Braggins and E. Jenkins (Masterton). The United District Fire Brigades' Association wrote advising that the annual conference would take place at Upper Hutt on March 23. • Superintendent H. Rogers and secretary S. Daniel were nominated as vice-presidents of the U.D’.F.B.A. ■ The balance sheet in connection with the New Year’s dance was submitted and showed a profit of £1 6s sd.

Four nominations were received to fill two vacancies in the brigade. Two nominations for honourary membership were received. It was decided to provide two silver service bars. Personal Items. Mrs A. Stewart, Station Road, is visiting Petone. Mr C. Buckeridge returned home yesterday from the Pahiatua Hospital much improved in health. Mr W. J. Henderson has been appointed acting-headmaster at the District High School.

Mushrooms Plentiful. Mushrooms are very plentiful in the Eketahuna district at present.
