ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held last evening, Bro. C. C. Deller. N.G., presiding. Sick pay amounting to £l3 was passed for payment. It was resolved that the Wellington District officers be invited to pay an official visit to the lodge on the next lodge night, February 19, and that arrangements . for supper be left in the hands of the secretary. Reports regarding members who are in hospital, etc., were submitted and good progress in all cases is being made by the patients. Correspondence was received from the Grand Master of New Zealand regarding the lengthy period of membership of P.G. Bro. John Fensham (70 years) and notifying that he had personally written Bro. Fensham conveying the good wishes of the society. The password for the current year was received from the district office and massed on to members. BOWLING PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY. A team consisting of Messrs N. Boyne. F. Harrington, H. Simmonds and Geo. Riggs (s) will leave. Carterton on Thursday morning to take part in the Public Service bowling tournament which is to be held in Wellington. The following champion games were played on the Carterton green last evening:— Champion rink: The semi-final between Messrs Harp and Sorensen’s teams provided, an exciting contest, and although Harp’s rink scored a win by a margin of 9 points the score did not indicate the nature of the play, for it was only in the last four heads of the game that the result was put beyond doubt. The. scores were:—Hill, Underhill, Larsen, Harp is) 25; Beaven. Spooner, Stent, Sorensen (s) 16. The final will be played between rinks skipped by Harp and Riggs. Progressive pairs: McCarty, Robertson (s) beat Boyne and Riggs (s), 22/20; Lynch and Harrington (s) beat A. Thompson and Barber (s), 25/18.
CENTENNIAL BATHS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting oi the Carterton Centennial Baths Committee was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presiding. It was resolved that application be made to change the date of the Carterton celebration from March 7 co March 2, and that the ceremony in connection with the turning of the first sod on the baths site take place at 1.30 p.m. and that the sports gathering commence at 2.30 o’clock.
It was resolved that a deputation should wait upon Mr W. Martin, headmaster of the Carterton District High School, in connection with the sports gathering. The sum of £5 was allocated as prize money, and it was decided that the secretary, Mr P. A. Cole, obtain offers privately to sell ice cream and soft drinks on the afternoon of the snorts. Motor Cycle Catches Fire. On Saturday evening a motor-cycle which was being ridden by two Wellington residents who were returning to the city took fire opposite the Bank of New Zealand. The fire brigade was called out. Before their arrival, however, the fire had been extinguished with a couple of buckets of water, but nut before the battery and seat had been destroyed. No injury was received by the riders. Personal Items. Mrs F. Sunkel, of Brooklyn. Road, has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital for medical treatment. Mrs Gibb Johnston has left Croydon Hospital, and is gradually improving in health ' Mrs J. C. Harp, who has been under treatment at the Croydon Hospital, has returned to her home again.
Mr Bath, son of Mr and Mrs F. G. Bath, who has been spending the holidays in Carterton. returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon. Mrs E. H. Smith, of Wakelin Street, Carterton. who had been on a visit to Wellington and Palmerston North, has returned to Carterton.
Mrs Alex J. Lindop, of Garrison Street, entered Masterton Hospital today in order to undergo an operation, Mr Jack Beard, who is well known in Carterton, was a passenger on yesterday afternoon’s mail train, returning to the City Mission after a holiday spent in the north. Master Dick Quinn, son of Mrs Quinn., late of the Club Hotel, left on Monday for Dunedin to further his studies at the Boys' High School. His brother, Brian, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs Carl Larsen, of the Club Hotel, is to go to college where he will study for a doctor. School Holidays Over. After the vacation the children assembled for tuition at the Carterton school this morning. The headmaster, Mr W Martin, reports a good attend-
ance. Several new pupils were added to the roll. Show Successes. At the Woodville Show. Mr W. J.
