GRAIN AND PRODUCE
CANTERBURY MARKETS. LITTLE ACTIVITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. February 3. Apart from the steady flow of wheat to the markets, there is not a great deal of activity in the grain and produce trade. Farmers seem content to hold most other lines. In the meantime merchants are offering up to 6s for best samples of Italian ryegrass, and from 5s to 5s Gd for perennial, of which little has so far come to hand. A few odd lots of white clover, for which the quotation is unchanged at Is to Is Gd, continue to come forward. A few samples of plains cocksfoot were submitted this week. Quality was not good, but insufficient has been seen for an accurate opinion to be formed of the general crop. Merchants are offering growers from Gd to f)d, according to quality. Demand for any lines of seed is not yet strong. Quotations for May-June potatoes remain nominally al £3 10s a ton. Markets —
GOLD MINING RETURNS. The Worksop Extended dredge returned 250 z for 1131 hours from 9500 yards. The New River return totalled 30oz for 105 hours from 8000 yards. The Molyneux dredge for the period ended January 27 returned 187 ounces for 178 hours work.
The Earrytown dredge return for January was 1103 oz for 393 hours worked and 133.000 yards excavated. The Kanieri dredge returned 11450 z for 517 hours from 349,000 yards. The Arahura dredge returned 164G0z for 521 hours from 331.000 yards excavated.
The Golden Sands return totalled 51 ounces for 70 shifts.
The Argo dredge returned 320 z for 135 hours from 14.000 yards.
