The clearance of ragwort is proceeding rapidly in the Matamata County after a period during which farmers have been shearing and haymaking. At a meeting of the Malamata County Council the noxious weeds inspector stated that he was satisfied that there was sufficient sodium chlorate in New Zealand to meet all requirements. Supplies had been made available at Matamata, Tirau and Putaruru. The inspector added that many peoyle persisted in throwing flowering ragwort along road frontages and water courses, whence the seeds were quickly distributed. The penalty for this offence is £2O.
