AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MASTERTON SUCCESSES. Members of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club had a notable day on Saturday last. Competing for the Wellington province against Canterbury at Christchurch, J. P. Eastwood won the 220 yards and 440 yards scratch events in the good times of 23 secs and 51 3-sth secs. B. A. Patrick ran second in the junior half-mile to Shaw of Canterbury, who lowered his own New Zealand record for the distance to 2min 0 2-ssecs. Shaw is the present New Zealand junior half-mile champion. At the Triangular Contest between the Olympic, Petone and Masterton Clubs held at Petone, all the senior scratch events except the long jump were won by Masterton. D. H. Stratton, won the 100 yards and 220 yards, W. M. Sellar the 440 yards and 880 yards, R. C. Wyeth the one mile and J. Watt the Discus Throw and Shot Putt Competing in the junior 100 yards, won by A. Ryail of Petone in 10 3-sth secs, J. M. Harrington ran his best race to date to finish a close-up second.
