The Sheffield Shield has this season been won by New South Wales, who today secured an outright win over Victoria by 177 runs. In the Shield competition New South Wales gained 20 points. South Australia 18. Victoria 16. and Queensland five.

HAMILTON, January 30. The Manawatu cricket .representatives took the Hawke Cup from Waikato today, when they won their challenge by nine wickets. Carrying their first innings score to 168, 50 ahead of Waikato, and batting for more than six hours, the visitors left Waikato little time to hit up enough runs and the hope to get Manawatu out again. Waikato's second innings only realised
70 runs, the batsmen going for big hits in an endeavour to give Manawatu a hard task on the fourth innings, but with only 21 to get to win Manawatu came homo comfortably. Scores:— WAIKATO.
