PATRIOTIC FUND
COMFORTS FOR SOLDIERS AMOUNT AIMED AT £200,000. PROVISION FOR RETURNED MEN

Although it is difficult to estimate even approximately lhe total funds the National Patriotic Funds Board will require to provide comforts for the New Zealand armed forces and Mercantile Marine in this war. the secretary and treasurer. Mi 1 G. A. Hayden stated today, the goal, on present day forecasts, should not be loss than £200,000. He emphasised the duty falling upon those who remained at home assisting to the utmost of their capacity those who went overseas. He explained how various organisations were carrying out duties allocated to them, the National Council being purely an advisory body. He said it. was hoped that there would be sufficient money left in the National Fund at the end of the war to serve as reservoir for unforeseen circumstances and' also to assist the poorer provincial councils. 'The provincial councils were concerned at the moment with the entertainment of troops within the camps and whilst on ' leave the supply of sports gear and equipping of bands. The ultimate aim was the provision of funds to be used, as in the last war, to assist men returning to civilian life.
