x WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS. \ SHIELD GAME WON BY MASTERTON. The Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association's inter-club competitions were continued on Saturday in windy weather. In the Gawith Shield contest. Masterton scored a win over Carterton by 13 matches to 11. In the B grade Masterton Park beat Memorial. A GRADE. Masterton v Carterton. The following were the results. Masterton players being mentioned first in each case: — Men’s singles: P. Hawksworth beat I. Mackie, 6/3, 6/3; N. Faulknor beat W. M. Worsfold, 6/4, 2/6, 6/4; J. J. Payton lost to Dyer, 4/6, 6/5, 4/6; J. Bright beat J. Dwane, 6/3, 6/4; Whiteman lost to Goodin, 6/5. 3/6, 1/6; Kean lost to Fisher. 2/6, 2/6. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Payton beat Misses Peters and Smart, 9/5; Misses Bennett and Wylie beat Misses Newbould and Harrington, 9/7; Misses Mulvaney and James lost to Mrs Hindley and Miss Knutson, 3/9. Section results in the doubles play are as follow: —
Men’s doubles: Park, 1 match 16 games; Memorial, 2 matches 21 games. Ladies’ doubles: Park, 3 matches 24 games; Memorial, 0 matches 15 games. Combined doubles: Park, 2 matches 29 games; Memorial, 4 matches 42 games. C GRADE. In the C grade competition Masterton Park scored a good win over St Matthew’s by 23 matches to 1, the standard of tennis, however, owing to the weather, being very poor. Memorial beat College by 20 matches to 4.
Carrington Park beat St Patrick’s by 19 matches to 5.
