COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. GRANT TO MEMORIAL BATHS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held in Carterton yesterday, the chairman. Mr Duncan McGregor presiding. There were also present: Messi's F. Court. C. A. Cameron, W. E. Allen, W. Renal). L. S. Gallon and A. McGregor. The county overseer. Mr J. Wallace, reported inter-alia, that work had been carried out in the Belvedere riding embracing road forming, general maintenance work, and that the Mangatarere Road mid been inspected during the month by Messrs Reid and Allen. In the Parkvale riding metal had been graded in the roads and noxious weeds had been cleared out of the metal pits. Slips had been cleared in the Dalefield riding and general road maintenance work had been carried out. The reconstruction of the Longbush section of the Maungaraki riding was still in progress, water-tables had been cleared and metal graded into the roads. General maintenance work had been carried out on the East Coast road. The water-race overseer, Mr H. J. McKenzie, reported on the Carrington and Taratahi races. It had been decided to carry out repairs to the former race owing to flood damage during December. The new 2-inch pipes had been put in at the Freezing Works, alongside the other 9-inch pipes. They had now an ample supply of water, using 500,000 gallons in 24 hours as compared with 160.000 some 20 years ago. Repairs had been carried out on both races. The treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £682. Accounts amounting to £2628 17s 8d were passed for payment. It was decided to make a grant of £l5O to the local Centennial Memorial which is to take the form of public swimming baths at Carterton. The library receipts for the past month totalled £25.

The next meeting of the council was fixed for February 22.
