TRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND
PAID BY NEW YORK PAPER. NEED FOR CO-OPERATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, January 25. The “New York- Times” in an editorial says that because New Zealand democracy pointed the way to others in good citizenship, humane social legislation and progressive government, the memory of the 1840 settlers deserves honouring in the United States. "We Americans hope the war will touch New Zealand lightly,” says the paper. “We want this 100-year-young democracy to emerge with its strength and sanity unimpaired. We will need the co-operation of people like the New Zealanders in putting the democratic world together again at the end of the war.”
