FUTURE TRADE RELATIONS. OUTLOOK RATHER OPEN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON. January 23 The State Department told Mr Horisouchi (Japanese Ambassador) that future American-Japanese commercial relations after the expiration of the treaty on January 26 would depend on Japan’s attitude regarding the rights of American citizens in China. The United States declined Mr Horisouchi’s request for an immediate exchange of Notes defining status and trade relations and added that changes in tariffs and other matters regulated by treaty were not anticipated al present. The United States declared that aftei January 26 Japanese merchants operating in the United States under treaty provisions would be regarded as temporary alien visitors.
