OBITUARY

FORMER SWISS PRESIDENT. The death has occurred of the Foreign Minister of Switzerland, Dr. Guiseppe Motta, aged 69 years, a radio message states. Dr. Molta was the son of a village postmaster, and began his political career when 24 years of age. He was a member of the Swiss Federal Council for 30 years, and was five times President of Switzerland. He was one of the most familiar figures al the League of Nations, and was invariably Switzerland's leading delegate. He was honorary president of the first Assembly in 1920 and President in 1924. Ten years later he made a bitter attack on Communism when he opposed Russia’s entry into the League.
