CENTRAL SCHOOL
RENOVATION PROPOSALS HELD UP. OWING TO INCREASED COST. By the irony of fate, alterations to the Masterton Central School are again held up. as they were 25 years ago, largely on account of war conditions. It was proposed to carry out extensive remodelling and modernising work at the school during the Christmas vacation, at an estimated cost of £4BOO. On account of the extra money now involved. owing to the increased costs of material, etc., another £BOO is required to do the work and on this account the proposals are again held up. Twenty-five years ago, everything was in readiness to renovate the school but owing to the outbreak of war' in 1914. the work was never carried out, Il will be a strange coincidence if similar reasons again prevent the work from being accomplished. The matter is being held up by the Education Department and will be discussed at next week's meeting of the Wellington Education Board. Even if the work is sanctioned, it will now be impossible to carry it out in the holiday period and hopes of avoiding an undue disturbance of school work have faded, unless it is postponed for another year.
