DANNEVIRKE SHOW
PIG CLASSES. The growing importance of the pig industry to the Dominion needs no emphasising. Greater attention is being given to its development and breeders are well catered for in the schedule for the Dannevirke A. and P. Association’s Centennial Show, which takes place on February 6 and 7. In Berkshires a cup is given by the Manawatu-Oroua branch of the N.Z. Pig Breeders’ Association for most points and to quality each competitor must compete at any three of six shows enumerated. All pigs must be bred and owned by the exhibitor. For Tamworth, Large Whites and Large Blacks, sets of cutlery, valued at £l5 15s are donated by the Manawatu-Oroua branch of the breeders' association for most points, while in the miscellaneous section there is a special challenge cup for class 112, one bacon pig. to have been bred and fattened by the exhibitor. Representation in the pig classes has been very satisfactory at the Dannevirke Show in recent years and it is expected that there will be another fine display on the coming occasion. Another section which has attracted increasing attention is that devoted to dairy produce. There is a gold medal to the competitor grading most points in four classes, a gold medal for the best medium white or coloured cheese made by the cheese-maker or factory manager’s first assistant, a challenge cup for best export cheese (white), and another for the best box of export butter. Prizes are on a liberal scale in this section. All who require schedules should make early application, as entries close on January 23 with the secretary. Box 38, Dannevirke.
