HOME DEFENCE

TWO HUNDRED MEN WANTED. CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT. Advice has been received at the MasI terton Defence Office that 150 recruits arc still required for the Fifteenth Heavy Battery and 50 for the Twentysecond Anti-Aircraft Battery (Home Defence Garrison duties). Recruits are required from the age groups 1821 years and 35-40 years, and will be required to register and be examined as for the Special Force, but all forms will be endorsed “Home Defence.'’ The duty performed by the above units is one of vital national importance, and all are on a war footing. The training in the anti-aircraft and coastal defence units is particularly interesting. Men are required for work in connection with sound locators, predictors, signalling and general anti-aircraft and heavy artillery work at the forts and with the anti-aircraft battery. Mon are also required for guards on vital points and must be thoroughly reliable and trustworthy as valuable installations and magazines will be in their charge. Pay and other conditions will be laid down as for home defence and travelling warrants will be issued to all men accepted for service with these units from their homes to the war stations to which they may be transferred. Intending recruits are advised to enquire at the local Defence Office.
