NORTH ISLAND TOURNRV PLAY AT PALMERSTON NORTH. McKENZJE IN GOOD FORM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ This Day. Good progress was again made yesterday in the North Island lawn tennis championship tournament, which is being staged by the Manawatu Association on the Linton Street courts. In several sections the finalists have already been found, and it is expected that all games will be disposed of by this evening. In the men's championship R. McKenzie (Hutt) the promising junior player, who on Thursday beat P. Hawksworth. the holder of the title, yesterday eliminated J. C. Charters (Hamilton) in the fourth round and plays F. Renouf (Victoria College) in one of the semi-finals. The winner will meet R. Howe, of Wellington. McKenzie yesterday won his semi-final in the boys’ championship and will play A. Johns, of Palmerston North, the present holder of the title, in the final.
The women’s championship singles will see Misses M. Beverley and B. Potter contest the final, while the final of the women’s championship doubles will be played between Misses N. and M. Beverley and Mrs Kennedy and Miss Z. Castle. Results of yesterday’s games are as follow: — MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Third round: H. D. Gyles beat A. C. WilSon, 6 —3, 6 —l; R. Howe beat B.
